A joint venture by two of the leading players in the UK waste market, Grundon Waste and Viridor Waste Management. Extreme pressures to generate energy and reduce emissions create a parallel requirement to inform local communities and the market in general about positive achievements. A prestigious visitor centre was constructed on a lake near the plant.
Project required careful visually-clean design to complement the local beauty spot with its mature eco system. Flexibility was key to facilitate multiple presentations in multiple locations. Design centred on a large matrix switcher with PC, CCTV and DVD feeds. A need to meet the challenge of the building’s circular design which meant there were no flat surfaces available for mounting. The auditorium was to have the best presentation tools.
Aesthetics play a key part in the visitor experience including discreet audio installation, ceiling suspended plasmas, colour matching and wireless touch panels. Fine details reinforce the power of the facility’s educational message and the two companies’ commitment to excellence, for example, a Carillion purpose-built lectern with preview screen, PC input and touch screen control. Beyond the highest quality in video and audio output, the facility’s success derives from its easy adaptability to accommodate a vast range of meeting sizes and types.
